Wearing a correctly fitted lifejacket increases your chance of survival if you end up in the water. If you don’t have a lifejacket, you can borrow one from a DPA Lifejacket Hub.
Our Lifejacket Hubs are a place where anyone can borrow lifejackets for themselves, their whānau, friends, school, organisation or community group. We partner with organisations across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland (and beyond) to prevent drowning by making lifejackets available for anyone to use while they are out connecting with the water.
DPA Lifejacket Hubs is just one of our drowning prevention initiatives. We are a non-profit organisation and your generous donation towards our work will be gratefully received. Please give what you can to support what we do.

When to wear a lifejacket
If you’re heading out for any of the following activities or situations, check that you have a correctly fitting lifejacket for everyone involved:
- Boating – powered or non-powered
- Rock-based fishing or other land-based fishing
- Personal watercraft – jet ski
- Craft – such as kayak, canoe, waka, stand up paddleboards, inflatables, dinghies
- Windsports – kiteboarding, windsurfing, wing foiling
- Wharfs and jetties
- Canyoning
- Working near water – construction, maintenance, surveying
- Floods and natural disasters
- Search and rescue operations
- Any time you want extra flotation in the water
Maritime New Zealand governs the rules regarding the use of lifejackets but local bylaw regulations may differ, so we recommend checking your Council website.

Lifejacket Koha
There is no fixed charge to borrow a lifejacket from one of our Lifejacket Hubs. However, DPA is a non-profit organisation and your generous donation towards our work will be gratefully received. Whether you’re borrowing a lifejacket or just want to support our mahi, give your chosen amount using this form.
Lifejacket Use Survey
It is important that everyone who borrows our lifejackets completes a user survey once they have been used.
