Many of the same rules, regulations and safety practices that apply to boating also apply to personal water craft (PWC) including jetskis. Things like as knowing your competency, checking the regulations and conditions, along with having the right equipment. But there are a few things you should know that are specific to PWCs. In New Zealand, unlike recreational boats, jetskis and other personal watercraft (PWC) must be registered.

Skipper Responsibility

  1. Know the maritime rules
  2. Lifejackets must be worn
  3. Know or check your bylaws
  4. Avoid alcohol
  5. Stick to safe speeds

  • 200m of the shore or a boat displaying a divers’ flag
  • 50m of any other boat or other people who are swimming
